Taranaki Regional Council Candidate
Kia ora! Welcome, I am Louise James one of your New Plymouth Candidates standing for the Taranaki Regional Council 2025.
"Planning for the future."

About
Dedicated to serving the city of Ngāmotu/New Plymouth around the Taranaki Regional Council table with passion and integrity. Committed to a sustainable and thriving region for all.
You and your family deserve a clean environment, a responsible council and reliable, safe transport. If elected I will make these my priority.
Born and raised in Taranaki, I have the skills and experience to represent you. A background in Public Health, published researcher and governance positions within the Auckland District Council of Social Services, Action for Children and Youth, COGS and more.
You'll find me approachable but unafraid to ask the hard questions, helping everyone feel heard.
TRC's role in public transport is crucial, which has motivated me to stand for the Regional Council.

Priorities

Environment
Continuing to monitor and protect our natural environment for future generations. Maintaining our beautiful gardens for the enjoyment of our people and attracting tourists. Clean water, fresh air and predator free.

Public Transport
Adequate public transport for all, including older people, those with disabilities, families and folks on low incomes. The NPDC may build the bus shelters but it is the TRC that provides the bus service. Developing greater bus availability through extended hours, weekends and increased frequency is a must for our city.

Rail
Putting rail on the agenda. Logs have started to be transported by rail, it is a start but not near enough to safeguard our roads. We have to think more seriously about inter-regional travel. The railway line that runs through our province is ideal to move passengers South to Whanganui and beyond. Let's bring back the Blue Streak! (photo credit John Bovis)

Community
Ensuring transparent and accountable governance that serves the best interests of the New Plymouth community. Once elected I will be in the position to bring any matters to the TRC table to ensure our local community's voices are heard. Let's welcome the world while keeping Taranaki, Taranaki.
Vote for Louise James
With five seats required to be filled from New Plymouth, suitable candidates must be chosen to represent the wide interests of our constituency. With my experience and passion for efficient public transport, including getting passengers on rail, voting me on the TRC is a progressive move. A tick for Louise James will ensure public transport is addressed for the benefit of those who live and visit our amazing province.
